Roznov Pod Radhostem Czech Republic - A cultural Explosion

Roznov Pod Radhostem is situated in the heart of the Walachia Region. Roznov is positioned in the crest of rolling beautiful tree lined valleys and is a favourite holiday destination for Czechs and Slovaks. ! Put simply, Roznov Pod Radhostem is the home of a “cultural explosion” and features one of the world’s largest open air museums were over 150 staff dressed in traditional folklore costumes entertain tourists with unique and unparallel form of cultural entertainment featuring Singing, dance and costume. Musicians, staff and actors dressed exactly how there ancestors would have done over 200 years ago entertain the crowds from the stages of the beautifully hand crafted amphitheatres. The aim of the museum is to portray life, culture and architecture in the Walachia region and Eastern Europe as it truly was over 200 years ago and through its wooden buildings, cuisine, singing and dance it achieves this perfectly.

The open air museum of Roznov Pod Radhostem is not the only reason to make a detour to Beskydy Mountain Region as Roznov is the catalyst and base for all things sport. The region simply has everything and cater for young and old. Roznov prides itself on catering for the young providing facilities which include a fair with carousel, tree slides, tree climbing, hand ball courts, trampolines, two open air swimming pools, mini golf, tennis courts, football parks and cinemas and all located a stones throw from the meandering  Becva River. For the grown ups there is enough sporting activity to keep the most demanding of  sporting connoisseur active for weeks at a time. Facilities include Horse riding, skiing, cycling with ample cycle hire venues, hill walking, trekking, bowling, hand and paragliding. The region provides excellent motorcycling for the on road and off road enthusiasts and there is enough fire trails, twisty roads and beautiful scenery to keep your adventure thrill seeking mind enthralled for weeks. Roznov has some delightful cafes and bars where you can sit, relax, dine and people watch for hours at a time. The region is famous for its friendly and enthusiastic staff and more famous for its local beer. It is reported Czech Republic sells more beer per head than any other country in the world. The reason for this is because the Czechs believe they make the best beer in the world and the best of the best is “Radegast Beer” which is brewed locally in the Walachia Region and with the price of a beer an incredible 5 – 10 times cheaper than its European counterparts it certainly makes for a bargain holiday destination. Accommodation is plentiful and bargain priced. There are two campsites with ample facilities including open air swimming pools, pensions and hotels a plenty. Simply put for a small town Roznov Pod Radhostem packs a massive cultural, sporting, leisurely and adventurous punch. It is the hub of all activity in the Beskydy region and is situated only four hours from Prague and a couple of hours from Poland and Slovakia. A stop over comes highly recommended. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Telc - South Moravia

Telc with a population of just 6000 people is located half way between Prague and Vienna. Early records claim this small town first built in the 13 century and surrounded on three sides by water was major stop over for European traders. The pastel coloured buildings so indicative of middle European architecture and the many statues make Tec a memorable place visit and a popular tourist Attraction. During our short stay in Tec we met a motorcycling group from Germany who were now homeward-bound after touring Slovakia. (See Tech Pictures).
