Tatra Mountains Slovakia and Krakow Poland
We
continued east into Slovakia our destination the high Tatra
Mountains. It was Simon’s first visit to the famous mountain
region of Slovakia and he was delighted to have included the
Tatra’s in our double world record quest. The dramatic views
of the high Tatra’s, ample fresh air, great climbing and
hiking, not to mention the bargain priced camping made the
Tatra’s a joy to visit. For me who had visited many times in
the past I was shocked at the large amount of destruction
caused by the recent storms. Large areas of the mountain
base which was until recently blanketed in rich deep forest
now was now laid bare. Instead of tall, healthy trees which
once stood proud, we now sadly see acres and acres of fallen
trees with their roots pointing to the sky. We spent three
days hiking the middle and high Tatras and enjoyed some
wonderful weather and incredible views. We met and enjoyed
the company of some German Lady motorcyclists who were
touring Eastern Europe and We then rode north into Poland to
visit Krakow one of the most famous, beautiful and historic
towns in Eastern Europe. Krakow is situated on the banks of
the Vistula River and with a skyline predominated with
Gothic buildings, cathedrals and churches it is a wonderful
city to explore. We are now turning West and heading to
England via Germany and Switzerland and hope to be there in
time for the announcement of a Guinness World Record
Success. (Picture Uta and Birgit - Germany)
